Note: The Bettcher premium library consists of a series of short courses (3-7 minutes each). Each location can create a custom playlist of courses specific to the type of trimmer in use at a facility, and the type of product processed.
To build your custom playlist, please use the following order:
1. The series begins with a choice of two courses:
- Basic Operation and Safety - Quantum
- Basic Operation and Safety - Series II
Each of these courses cover the same core topics, but are focused on the use of each trimmer system. Topics included in each “Basic Operation and Safety” course include:
- How to engage the driveline (Quantum) or flex shaft (Series II)
- How to engage the trimmer
- How to hang and remove the trimmer
- Proper alignment of the driveline (Quantum) or flex shaft (Series II)
- How to lubricate the blade
- When to shut off the trimmer
2. Choose the courses for the trimmer in use on “Ergonomics.”
- Introduction to Ergonomics - Quantum
- Introduction to Ergonomics – Series II
Each course covers the same core topics, but is focused on the use of each trimmer system. Topics included in each “Ergonomics” course include:
- How to hold the trimmer
- How to determine proper handle size
- Basic work station setup
3. Choose your “Edge Management” technique. This topic is split into four courses, focusing on the type of blade and steeling device in use.
- Steeling a Straight Blade Using a Straight Steel
- Steeling a Flat Blade and Hook Blade Using a Straight Steel
- Steeling a Straight Blade Using the EdgeMaster
- Steeling a Flat Blade Using the EdgeMaster
Note that each “Edge Management” course shows the Quantum trimmer. However the process is the same for maintaining a Series II trimmer.
4. Finally, choose from the of short application courses showing good practices for using a Bettcher trimmer on a product at various stages of processing. The application courses are specific to species such as pork, beef, turkey, and chicken.
Example of a typical course workflow
A pork processor using a Series II trimmer with flat blades and straight steels would choose the following playlist:
- Basic Operation and Safety - Series II
- Introduction to Ergonomics – Series II
- Steeling a Flat Blade and Hook Blade Using a Straight Steel
The playlist could then continue with one or more pork application courses based on the applications on which the learner should be trained.
