This article features important information to help you get started with the Intertek Mobile App Observations, also known as Coach. It reviews what an observation is, its key features, terminology, relationship and roles, and Manager administrative roles. If you are just getting started with Observations, we recommend that you read this article in its entirety, but jump to a section if you feel comfortable with the app.
What is an Observation?
Intertek Alchemy is a secure, mobile app that allows supervisors to perform on-the-job observations or inspections for validating training. Supervisors can quickly facilitate root cause analysis as well as identify and document corrective actions while promoting positive reinforcement.

Glossary Terms
Familiarize yourself with our terminology by reviewing the terms used in the app and during its usage.
Intertek Alchemy
- Application that is downloaded onto the device to perform observation.
- Level of access required in Manager to utilize the application.
- A coach admin is the personnel, or trainer performing the observation.
Observation
- An action item and knowledge review checklist created on Manager and synced on to the Coach device.
- The act of a Coach watching an employee perform tasks and measuring their performance with the checklist.
Corrective Action
- Optional next step for observations that have been marked Not Compliant.

Positive Reinforcement
- Next step for observations that have been marked Compliant.
- A technique used to encourage desired behaviors by offering a reward or positive stimulus following the behavior. This increases the likelihood that the behavior will be repeated in the future. Examples include giving praise, rewards, or incentives when someone performs a desired action.
Relationships & Roles
Intertek Alchemy Mobile App and Manager
- Upon launching, the app will automatically sync.
- When the app is Synced, the following items will appear in the app:
- new Users
- new Observations
- When the app is Synced, the following items will appear in Manager:
- any completed Observations
- any corrective actions performed in the app
Manager Administrative Roles
Mobile App and Credentials
Level admin access is not required to use the mobile app. Worksite supervision and the Coach Admin add on is required to access Observations in the app. Refer to our Observations: Sign In Instructions for step-by-step information on configuring the Intertek Alchemy App on your mobile device including Mobile App Credentials. Note: Coaches will need supervisory permission to the worksite and to particular group based on who the Coach is observing. This permission is assigned by a Platinum Admin in Manager (see below).
Platinum Admin Access
- Allows onsite admin ability to grant Coach Admin and worksite supervision access without contacting Alchemy Support.
- Allows onsite admin ability to give supervisor permission to groups and worksites.
- Access Manager site.
- Create observations and run reports.
