What is a Parent-Child Course
A parent course is a new course created on a specific subject. This example specifies what parent-child course is for language variations. For example, within the Playbook Course Builder you create a new course on Working Height and this course is in English. This is your Parent Course. You translate this English course and create a Spanish and French version. These versions are considered child courses.

Subtitles Safeguard
As a best practice, when a parent or child course is changed in course builder, so should all of the courses. The course builder for Playbook is equipped to track these changes through the version history and version number. Matching the version number for all parent-child courses ensures that only identical child courses have the subtitles feature enabled. This safeguard keeps the training content valid in any language. How do you ensure that the version numbers match? Continue to the next section, Ensuring Version Match.
If your course versions do not match, your subtitles will not display correctly in course playback. Matching the version number for all parent-child courses ensures that only identical child courses have the subtitles feature enabled.
