There are two ways to build a Playbook course: in Manager and in Playbook. This article discusses how to build a course in Manager. You can formally create and establish course language offerings other than English for content delivery using Alchemy Manager's Playbook Course Builder, refer to our Multi-language Course Builder Options article here. Note: Any admin with Silver level access or higher with Playbook admin add-on or Qualification Admin add-on can create, edit and publish Playbook courses in Manager.  Refer to Access Levels for details on admin levels and add-ons. Once created, a course can only be viewed and edited by a Manager Admin who supervises the worksite.

Step 1 | Starting Your Course

1. Navigate to Activities and select Courses.
2. Select the button to create a new course.
3. From the Course format menu, select Alchemy Playbook.

4. Enter all required fields as indicated by an asterisks: Course Title, Language of Course Content, Worksite(s), and Passing Score. 
   Note: External ID is optional and helps identify courses in Manager with courses in external systems.
   

   Note: Once created, a course can only be viewed and edited by a Manager Admin who supervises the worksite.

5. Choose Restrict Editing, if desired. 
   • When enabled, this feature prevents all users except the course owner and Diamond admins from modifying the course. Other users can only copy it.
   • If this feature is in use, find out who can edit the course by clicking on the icon. It will display the names of the course Owner and Diamond Users. 
6. Choose Course Delivery.
7. Click Add.
8. At the Details page, select Edit Course. Continue to Step 2 to add content to your course.
   
   Note: Course Details and your Course Draft will be available to edit at a later time, if needed. 

Step 2 | Adding Content to Your Course

The method for incorporating various content types—texts, videos, photos, questions, and documents—is streamlined for ease in Manager. Here's how you can add and format your course content:

Choosing Content Types

Here are the types of content you can add to your Playbook course. To add more content, click ADD MORE.

Any uploaded media must be 500mb or below: Video (MP4, AVI, WEBM, .MOV, MPEG, .mkv, .flv, WMV) Photo (.JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, BMP) Text (does not allow photos) Question (2-4 answer choices) Document (PDF, Word, Excel)

Formatting Text Across Content Types

Enhance your course with rich text features and options to provide context or instructions. Title your text, input your content, and use features like bullet points, numbered lists, and hyperlinks for organization.

1. Give your text a title in the Headline box.
2. Add content in the body text box.
3. Format your text with rich text options such as:
   • Bold, Italics, and Underline
   • Header/body size options including blockquote and code 
   • Font size and Font type
   • Bullet points or a number sequence
   • Remove rich text icon can easily remove Bold, Italics, Underline, Header types, Font size and Font style
   • Note: Rich text features are available for video, photo and text content types. When adding translations to your Playbook course, review added translations to ensure rich text formatting is consistent. 
     
4. Add a hyperlink to your content.
   • The Link Title is how the link will be displayed; the Link Target is the full weblink.
   • To remove the link, put your cursor on the link and click on the Unlink icon.
     
5. When you are finished editing your text, click NEXT. 

Adding Videos and Photos

Adding video and photo content to your Playbook courses is a great way to show how to complete job-specific tasks. They can be taken directly from a smartphone within the Playbook app, carried horizontally or vertically. Or, if you prefer to create content prior to adding a course, you can upload a photo or video.

Select ADD VIDEO or ADD PHOTO from the course options page. Choose whether to add from the library or take a photo/video in Playbook. Give the content a title and additional details, if applicable. Click NEXT

Add Questions

Select ADD QUESTION from the course options page. Type the question, then the answer options. Optional: Add photo by selecting the icon. This will update all other languages for the course. Each language can have a different photo.  The initial addition of the photo will update all other languages for the course. When a photo is replaced, it will need to be replaced in all course languages individually. Each language can have a different photo.  Select the correct answer. Click NEXT.

Add a Document 

Adding a document to your Playbook content is a great way to include company SOPs or other documentation to your training courses. 

Select ADD DOCUMENT from the course options page. Click + ADD DOCUMENT to browse your computer for a document. Select the document you wish to upload from your computer. Please note, for your security, all uploads are scanned to ensure they are free of viruses and safe to include in your course. Click NEXT after the upload completes. If any issues are detected during the scan, you will be notified immediately to take appropriate action.

Rearrange Content and Save

Once you are satisfied with all of the added content, you can rearrange it to fit the course needs. For example, if you decide that a particular question should actually be asked after a specific video, you can move it.

1. Click and hold the six-dot icon to the left of your content block title, drag and drop your content block.
2. Once the content is in the correct order, click SAVE AND CLOSE.
   
    

Step 3 | Publish or Save Content

1. Select SAVE AND CLOSE when completed.
2. Decide to PUBLISH or SAVE DRAFT.
   • If you opt to Save Draft, you can Edit the Playbook Course in Manager later.
     
3. If you decide to publish, a window will appear publishing the course. 
   • You will be prompted with additional pop-up windows for the following:

     • The option below will appear if you have selected multiple languages in the course builder. Select what you want to publish, then click Next.
       

       Note: To ensure that the subtitle feature is enabled, publish all the courses at the same time. For more information on this, refer to our Using Dual Language Course Subtitles article.

     • This prompt will appear when edits are made. Select how big the edits were, with the option to make version history notes, select Next.

View the course in Playbook

1. Sync the Playbook app with Manager.
2. Navigate to Courses in Playbook.
3. From here, find and select your course.
4. It will give the option to Train user or Quick Reference.
   • If you select Train user, it will take you to the Choose user page where you will select the user who will take the course for credit.
   • Quick Reference will allow you to review the course content.  Quick Reference will not create a transcript, and will not be recorded in Manager.
