This article demonstrates how to facilitate an observation on an individual user. Observations are created in Alchemy Manager and must be performed by Administrators who have the appropriate access.
Note: Currently, observations can be completed in the Intertek Alchemy Mobile App, and legacy Coach app. Legacy Coach app instructions may vary.
The Intertek Alchemy Mobile app has the ability to facilitate multi-user observations, refer to our Facilitate a Multi-User Observation article for more information.
Automatic Sync
Upon launching the Coach app, it will automatically sync with Manager. The Mobile app will also sync automatically upon completion of an Observation, and Corrective Action. Refer to How to Get Started with Observationsfor more information on syncing Manager and the app.
Launching a Single-User Observation
There are three paths to launching an observation. The section below provides step-by-step instructions on how to launch an observation using the three different paths:
Path #1: Launching from Observations
- Open the app, then select Observations.
- At the Observation listing, make your selection by clicking anywhere on the row.
- Select your Language.

Select your User, then Begin Observation.
Path #2: Launching from Users
- Open the app, then select Users.
- At the User listing, make your selection by clicking anywhere on the User row.
- Click on Observations.
- Select from Assigned Observations (if any) OR select All Others to search and choose an Observation.

Begin Observation.
Path #3: Launching from Quick Actions
- Open the app, then select Assigned Observations Due in the Quick Actions section of the app.
- At the Assigned Observations listing, make your selection by clicking anywhere on the User row.
- Both Observations and Corrective Actions are listed.
- Use the Filter
option to view Users who have observations that are:
- Not Started - can start an observation
- In Progress - can resume the observation
- Compliant - can mark the Positive Reinforcement completed
- Not Compliant - CA Pending refers to a corrective action pending and needs completion.
- Not Compliant - CA Complete
- Once the User is selected you are able to perform a few options depending on the status of the Observation or Corrective Action. The options available include:
- Begin (Observation)
- Resume (Observation)

Perform a Single-User Observation
As you move through the observation, you will have the opportunity to add comments, images, annotate images, and complete positive reinforcements. The instructions below take you through the observation options.

Review the Observation Instructions and confirm that the user selected is correct.
- Select See More to view full instructions, if necessary.
- Click Begin.

Move through the observation and select the appropriate answers. You will also be able to add comments and photos:

Add comments as required per question by clicking on the Comment for employee section.

Add an image by selecting the camera icon.

After selecting Add, choose an option:
- Photo Library allows you to choose an existing photo.
- Take Photo allows you to take a new photo with the device camera.

Note: You can add multiple photos to a question, repeat instructions below to add multiple photos.

Select or take your image and annotate if desired, by clicking Annotate. Select Next to continue with the observation without annotations.

Make your annotations, if desired, then select Apply. Repeat this process, if annotating more than one photo.

You will see the newly added photo and can continue adding photos by repeating the steps above.

After selecting Add, choose an option:

Add comments as required per question by clicking on the Comment for employee section.
- Continue through each section and add summary comments or root cause analysis, if required as these are optional fields.

Document the Coach and Employee signature.
- Make your final Observation Status, then click Submit.
- After providing positive reinforcement for a compliant observation, Mark Complete.
- Confirm communication of Positive reinforcement. Upon success, you will receive a green confirmation ribbon.
- For a Not Compliant Observation, complete an in-app or Manager Corrective Action. For more information, refer to our How to Complete a Corrective Action article.
Note: If you need to stop the Observation at any point, click the “X" in the top left hand corner. A prompt will appear and you will be asked if you want to Exit the observation. The observation progress will be saved and you will be able to restart the Observation in progress.
